SEVEN
BASIC COMMANDS OF JESUS
Jesus
said, "If you love me, you will obey what I command."
He
also ordered, "Make disciples … teaching them to obey all my commands."
Jesus
issued more than 100 commands.
These seven summarize most of the others.
- Change
your mind and believe in me.
"The Kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news"
(Mark 1: 14 & 15).
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in
me" (John 14: 1-7).
- Baptize
new believers.
"Make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father, the Son and the Holy spirit." (Matthew 28: 19)
- Love
God, neighbor, one to another, and enemies.
"Love the Lord your God … and your neighbor as yourself."
(Mark 12: 30 & 31)
"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you"
(John 15: 9-14)
"Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matthew
5: 43-48).
- Pray
to God using my name.
"You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it"
(John 14: 10-14).
"Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and
you will receive, and your joy will be complete" (16: 23-24).
- Celebrate
my death.
"This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me....
This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink
it, in remembrance of me." (Luke 22: 17-20; 1 Corinthians 11:
23-26).
- Give
generously.
"Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one
who wants to borrow from you." (Matthew 5: 38-42).
Give, and it will be given to you.... For with the measure you use,
it will be measured to you"(Luke 6: 37 & 38).
- Make
others my disciples.
"Make disciples of all nations... teaching them to obey everything
I have commanded you" (Matthew 28: 16-20).
Repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached... to all nations"
(Luke 24: 36-47).
