SEVEN BASIC COMMANDS OF JESUS

Jesus said, "If you love me, you will obey what I command."
He also ordered, "Make disciples … teaching them to obey all my commands."

Jesus issued more than 100 commands. These seven summarize most of the others.

  1. Change your mind and believe in me.
    "The Kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news" (Mark 1: 14 & 15).
    "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me" (John 14: 1-7).
  2. Baptize new believers.
    "Make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy spirit." (Matthew 28: 19)
  3. Love God, neighbor, one to another, and enemies.
    "Love the Lord your God … and your neighbor as yourself." (Mark 12: 30 & 31)
    "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you" (John 15: 9-14)
    "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matthew 5: 43-48).
  4. Pray to God using my name.
    "You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it" (John 14: 10-14).
    "Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete" (16: 23-24).
  5. Celebrate my death.
    "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.... This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." (Luke 22: 17-20; 1 Corinthians 11: 23-26).
  6. Give generously.
    "Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." (Matthew 5: 38-42).
    Give, and it will be given to you.... For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you"(Luke 6: 37 & 38).
  7. Make others my disciples.
    "Make disciples of all nations... teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28: 16-20).
    Repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached... to all nations" (Luke 24: 36-47).
